Dear General Lynch:

As a Jeepologist, my research on the genesis of the Jeep would have been completed long ago and the book off the press.

It was easy to determine that the Jeep was conceived in the womb of the Army. Not being a biologist, it has been difficult for me to establish the identity of the father of the Jeep due to the many ardent claimant for this distinction. The real father of the Jeep will be revealed in my story.

The rough-draft manuscript for all the 21 chapters has been typewritten. The re-write editor has the first 12 chapters ready to submit to the Bureau of Public Relations, War Department, for official clearance and pass on to the publisher.

The name of the book is "The Jeep" and means the Army 1/4-Ton, 4x4 Truck. To use this name, I must establish its present use as applied to this vehicle. For this reason, may I ask you to fill out the enclosed form and return it to me by mail.

Your complimentary copy, as a contributor, will reach you in due time.

I continue to be most grateful to you for your most helpful cooperation.

        Very sincerely,

A. Wade Wells
